Interaction with journalists in the combat zone during the period of martial law

An order issued by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine establishes the procedure for admitting media representatives to military facilities in the combat zone for the duration of martial law.

In particular, the document defines the algorithm of actions for commanders of branches (forces), commanders of military units and subunits of the Armed Forces of Ukraine when working with representatives of civilian media.

It also defines the procedure for accrediting journalists from national and foreign media, as well as the rules for media representatives working in the combat zone.

Please refer to the provisions of

Order No. 73 of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine dated March 3, 2022.

Accreditation of media representatives.

To ensure media coverage of Ukraine's defense efforts amid the russian federation's armed aggression and to provide timely, accurate, and comprehensive information about russia's war crimes, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are accrediting representatives of national and foreign media outlets.

To obtain the relevant electronic press card, media representatives must complete the application form and send the list of documents specified in the form.

The completed application form needs to be sent to [email protected]. Also, the following must be submitted along with the application form:

  1. a scanned copy of your passport (pages 1-3) or ID card;
  2. a scanned copy of your media representative ID (not required for individuals providing informational support to foreign journalists);
  3. a request from a media entity to grant accreditation;
  4. a high-resolution photo of the person.

After verification of all data, media professionals will be provided with an electronic version of the press card to present upon request by military and law enforcement agencies.

Refusal to comply with or violation of the Rules for Media Representatives in Combat Zones, or transfer of press cards to other persons, shall be grounds for revocation or suspension of accreditation pending investigation of the circumstances of the violation.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine, other components of the defense forces, commanders of military units, or their authorized representatives for interaction with the media are not responsible for the safety, life, and health of media representatives, ensuring their return, or issues related to life, health, and property insurance.
