The Defence Forces of Ukraine, jointly with NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and with the participation and support of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC), have developed two AI-based models. They are designed to predict enemy UAV attacks near the contact line and to plan Ukrainian artillery operations.
Both models were presented at a JATEC seminar at the National Cyber Security Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event, focused on the use of modern IT solutions, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in analytical processes, brought together around 30 NATO experts and Ukrainian military analysts from several Defence Forces units.
The first model forecasts enemy UAV usage, drawing on an analysis of historical data, weather conditions, and the current battlefield situation. It has already been validated on real-world datasets, refined, and prepared for integration into the situational awareness systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The second model supports artillery planning by automatically generating and evaluating viable operational options. Its prototype has been handed over to the Defence Forces of Ukraine for testing and verification.
The development of these models is in line with one of JATEC's mission tasks: fostering deeper cooperation between NATO and Ukraine in the use of modern IT solutions, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in defence analysis.
